Kishangarh is a city and a town in Ajmer region in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It lie 18 miles north-west of Ajmer. It is well linked via National Highway and Indian Railways. It is the origin of the Kishangarh style of painting which is recognized for the beautiful representation of a courtesan known as Bani Thani. In current years, Kishangarh has come to be recognized as the marble city of India. It is supposed to be the only place in the world with a place of worship of nine planets.
Kishangarh is 30km northeast of Ajmer, was founded in the early 17th century by Kishan Singh, a Rathore prince. Since the 18th century the town of Kishangarh has been linked with one of India’s well-known schools of miniature painting. Among its famous mechanism is the Bani Thani painting by Kishangarh master Nihal Chand –a sensual, elegant depiction of Krishna’s consort, Radha, depict with excessively slanting, almond-shaped eyes – you’ll see this reprinted all over Rajasthan. Today local artist are trying to revive this magnificent school of painting by making copy of the original on surfaces such as wood, stone and cloth. Kishangarh is also well-known for painted wooden furnishings and marble.
